Straight Line Missions
One of my favorite YouTubers goes by the name GeoWizard. GeoWizards name is Tom Davies and, on his channel, he plays GeoGussr, other geography challenges, and does straight line missions. These are when he goes out and tries to hike across an entire country in a completely straight line, not deviating more than 25 yards or so.
Since 2018, Davies has attempted four straight-line missions with only one true success. He has tried Wales twice, Scotland once, and Norway once. The first Wales mission was somewhat successful in that he did complete the line, just not in one go. He was forced off a cliffside when the weather got too bad to proceed. The second Wales attempt came to an end when his best friend, Welsh Greg, started to have medical complications. The Scotland attempt was the most recent attempt and only ended because of poor timing. When Tom and Greg initially set out, covid was a concern but had not triggered any significant lockdowns. After a couple of days of adventuring, the virus became more severe, and shutdowns happened. The police ended up being called on the pair, and their mission ended there. Norway was Tom's one and true success.
Tom's missions are essential not only because he is the first person known to attempt something like this, but hopefully, it inspires more to get out and see the beautiful scenery that the world has to offer.
