iNaturalist

iNatualist may be one of my favorite apps I have ever downloaded on my phone. I use this app to help me identify any wildlife I may come across when out hiking. I have discovered names of plants, fish, and fungi, but there is even more that iNaturalist offers.

iNaturalist can help you identify fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, arachnids, insects, fungi, and mollusks. While I have not dived deep into some of these categories, the ones I have dug deep are extensive. Once you pick the category and location, the app will give you a list of all the observations that would be relevant to you. However, I would suggest going to the species tab, as this is where you will be able to see all the individual species and not just observations. This will help cut down on time as many of the observations are repeated species. You can also look at who identified the fish or insect and see their reputation for identifying.

If you ever come across something outdoors that you want to identify, I suggest looking to the iNaturalist app. This app has helped me numerous times.
