Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Graveyard
All of the Ben & Jerry's flavors that once existed, and now no longer exist, are compiled into a list on their website called the Flavor Graveyard. Here you are able to click on any of the listed flavors and learn what the ingredients were as well as how long Ben & Jerry's offered the ice cream.
The first "death" was of the 1987 flavor Economic Crunch. This vanilla with chocolate-covered almonds, pecans, and walnuts was released in remembrance of the November 6 stock market crash and was only available in 1987. The latest death is the Crème Brulee, sweet custard ice cream with a caramelized sugar swirl, starting in 2007 but getting pulled from shelves in 2012.
In total, there are 34 flavors listed, and while some seem to make sense, others might sell well in today's market. For example, from 1989 to 1990, Ben & Jerry's offered a peanut butter and jelly flavored ice cream. The peanut butter ice cream with peanut butter bits and strawberry jelly swirl flavor could be one of their most popular flavors today. Another one that stood out to me was the Dastardly Mash flavor. Running from 1979 to 1991, this chocolate ice cream with pecans, almonds, raisins, and chocolate chips ran for over a decade before being removed from the shelves.
One cool feature on the page is the "Resurrect This Flavor" button, where you can request Ben & Jerry's brings back any of the flavors listed.
