Transit Pass Included with Rent

In 2019 four apartment buildings were a part of a trial by the Minnesota Metro Transit. They were given all-you-can-ride Transit passes for six months as an amenity to living in that apartment. With over 60 percent of the participants taking advantage of the trial, Metro Transit looks to extend its program in 2022.

Metro is looking at around 20 different apartment complexes along various routes to offer the program too. Instead of 83 dollars a month, landlords pay just 14 dollars and can offer it as a perk of living at their building. Along with benefitting the riders and landlords, it also helps the Transit as it has been hit hard by covid.

Offering rides as far north as Anoka and as far south as Apple Valley, the Transit has an extensive route system. Giving over 35 million rides in 2020, enough for every Minnesotan to take six rides, the Metro Transit looks to become even more prevalent in the coming years. And as more people are ditching cars for environmental reasons, or lack of space, the transit system will become more important to the riders.
