Southern California Oil Spill
On October 2, 2021, an oil spill was spotted in the ocean, off the shore of southern California, near Huntington Beach. It is estimated that 126,000 gallons of oil were spilled into the sea or nearly $300,000 worth of oil.
As of now, Amplify Energy, owner of the oil lines that spilled, has said that the oil has stopped seeping out, and any oil left in the pipes has been sucked out. However, while it has stopped, no one knows why the spill happened in the first place, and divers are still looking for a reason.
Hopefully, one comes soon as there are already dead fish and birds washing ashore. However, it is unknown how long the cleanup will take as a storm threatens to stir up the ocean.
