New York’s First Female Governor
Kathy Hochul, 62, is set to become New York’s first governor. A man has held the seat for 233 years, but no longer. Nineteen other states have never held a female governor, Minnesota being one of them.
Hochul is more than qualified for the position, having been lieutenant governor since 2015 and been in politics since 1994. Governor will be her sixth position in politics but by far most impactful.
Beginning as a town board member for 13 years, Hochul enjoyed the work she was doing. In 2003 she was appointed to Deputy County Clerk, then shortly after, County Clerk. Before becoming lieutenant governor to Cuomo, the last position she held was U.S. House of Representatives for the 26th district in New York.
