Case of the Missing Eggs

My parents have always had lots of animals, chickens, goats, turkeys, ducks, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and the list goes on. However, they usually have a say in how many of these animals they have until this year.

In previous years we have let some of our hens sit on their eggs until hatching, but we usually take the eggs for eating. This year, we were not planning on hatching any chicks but could not find where the hens had been laying their eggs for the past couple of weeks. So my parents joked that soon they would have little chicks running around the yard. Well, they were not wrong.

While mowing this past week, I came upon an unexpected scene; one of our hens was walking around with eight chicks. We have many hens at the moment and had not noticed this one was sitting on eggs for the past 20 or so days.

It may be unexpected, but adding eight more animals to the list does not surprise me. My family is one that loves animals, and I expect them always to have a multitude running around their yard.
